FIRST FIX & SECOND FIX EXPLAINED

Rewiring is completed in two stages to ensure everything is installed correctly before the walls are closed up.

  • FIRST FIX

    Cables are run through walls, floors, and ceilings. Back boxes are installed. This happens before plastering or boarding.

  • SECOND FIX

    Sockets, switches, light fittings, and the consumer unit are connected and tested. Walls are finished by this stage.

  • MINIMAL DISRUPTION

    I work room by room to keep your home livable. Dust sheets, tidy work, and respect for your property guaranteed.

  • FULL CERTIFICATION

    Complete Electrical Installation Certificate and Building Regulations notification where required.

How long does a full rewire take?
A typical 3-bedroom house takes 5-7 days. Larger properties may take 1-2 weeks. I work efficiently and keep disruption to a minimum by completing one area at a time.
Can I stay in the property during a rewire?
Yes, in most cases. I work room by room, restoring power each evening. However, for major rewires, some clients prefer to stay elsewhere for a few days for convenience.
Do you repair plaster and decoration after?
I make good all chases and floorboard cuts to a professional standard. However, full redecorating (painting, wallpapering) is the client's responsibility or can be arranged through a trusted decorator.
How do I know if my house needs rewiring?
Signs include: old rubber or fabric cabling, no earth on lighting circuits, frequent blown fuses, discoloured sockets, or if your property is over 30 years old. An EICR inspection will confirm the condition.
Do I need to notify Building Control?
Yes, rewiring is notifiable work. As a registered electrician, I can self-certify the work and notify Building Control directly, saving you time and hassle. You will receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate.
