Common Questions

LIGHTING FAQ

Can I replace my existing lights with LEDs?
In most cases, yes. I can retrofit LED bulbs into existing fittings or replace the entire fitting for a cleaner look. During a free survey, I will advise the best approach for your specific setup.
Do I need fire-rated downlights?
Yes, if there is a habitable room above. Fire-rated downlights maintain the ceiling's fire integrity for 30, 60, or 90 minutes. I only install fire-rated fittings where required by Building Regulations.
Are LEDs compatible with dimmer switches?
Yes, but you need LED-compatible dimmer switches. Old-style dimmers designed for halogen bulbs will not work properly and can damage LEDs. I supply and install the correct dimmers as part of the service.
What colour temperature should I choose?
Warm white (2700K-3000K) is best for living rooms and bedrooms for a cosy feel. Cool white (4000K-5000K) suits kitchens, bathrooms, and offices for task lighting. I can show you samples to help decide.
Can you install smart lighting systems?
Absolutely. I install Philips Hue, LIFX, and other smart systems. Control your lights from your phone, set schedules, create scenes, and integrate with Alexa or Google Home. I will set everything up and show you how to use it.
